Waynesboro City Council voted to adopt a resolution supporting a federal emergency mitigation grant application to fund pump-station work that staff described as part of a larger water-infrastructure project.
City staff told the council the grant application covers a portion of the immediate pump-station work. Staff reported the grant-scope portion has a local match of $211,000 and a listed total of $4,000,002.30 for that portion; staff additionally said the overall project is about $8,000,000. Staff explained they are pursuing the federal grant through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and, if the grant does not come through, are exploring a state loan program with loan-forgiveness options or financing the project because it is necessary infrastructure work.
Mister McCormick presented the application background and funding options. The council approved the resolution by a unanimous vote.
