Boise public art update: 'Passage' and Kaisho Corner dedicated; Visual Chronicle exhibition opens

Boise City Arts & History staff updated commissioners on recent public art projects and a city-commissioned exhibition, saying installations and an exhibition completed this summer reached public audiences.
Passage, created by James Peterson of Art and Contraptions and funded by the Neighborhood Investment Program and the Percent for Art Fund, was dedicated at a neighborhood youth festival in June. Staff said the piece produced strong daytime and nighttime imagery and noted photographs from Brandon Louveriello documenting the work.
Kaisho Corner, a set of three integrated park installations created by Huameng Liu and Lewis Chin of Law Studio and funded by the Capital City Development Corporation, was dedicated July 28. Staff said the park installations were inspired by Boise’s history and drew substantial use during a nearby festival weekend.
Staff also described the Boise Visual Chronicle exhibition, American Contradictions, a biannual commissioning program. The jury selected eight artists for the 2025 cycle and awarded first, second and third prizes plus a staff purchase award; staff said they purchased the work that received the jury’s first-place prize. The exhibition opened Aug. 28 and drew more than 100 attendees at opening reception.
Staff briefly noted the department completed artist selection for an airport mural and described a competitive selection process. No final mural artist name was released at the meeting.
