Planning staff provided three administrative updates at the Sept. 8 meeting: council’s decision on the ADU ordinance, several recent board of adjustment variance outcomes that may prompt zoning amendments, and scheduling for a possible special meeting on Shadow Creek Townhomes Flat 4.
Luke (planning staff) told commissioners that council chose principal building setbacks for the ADU ordinance while allowing smaller accessory setbacks through a special-use permit: “Council did decide to, move forward with, the principal building setbacks, but then doing a special use permit for the smaller setbacks.” Luke said this approach preserves the option of reduced accessory setbacks while requiring an additional approval step.
Luke also summarized recent board of adjustment (BOA) activity and said staff may see zoning-amendment requests related to accessory structures and projections from houses. Elliot asked whether two commissioners could attend a proposed special meeting on Friday midday to consider Shadow Creek Townhomes Flat 4; two members indicated potential availability and staff said an agenda item could be posted soon.
No formal action was taken on these updates; they were provided as staff reports and scheduling matters. The commission’s next regular meeting was set for Sept. 22.
