Clemmons council approves 20-year annexation agreement renewal with Bermuda Run

The Village Council on Sept. 8 unanimously approved a 20-year renewal of an annexation agreement with the town of Bermuda Run that clarifies that neither municipality will annex land on the opposite side of the Yadkin River.
Village Manager Guneal told the council the agreement renews an earlier pact that expired in 2020 and requires a public hearing. "This is a new annexation agreement with the town of Bermuda Run stating that neither town will annex all the other side of the Yadkin River," Guneal said, adding the prior agreement expired in 2020.
The mayor opened and immediately closed the public hearing after seeing no one signed to speak. Councilmember moved and seconded a motion to approve the agreement as presented; the council voted in favor by voice vote and the mayor declared the motion carried unanimously.
No additional conditions or amendments were attached to the approval at the Sept. 8 meeting.
The village manager said staff had reviewed annexation agreements as part of ongoing interlocal coordination. The agreement will remain in effect under the terms presented unless the council later amends it.
