Commissioners celebrate new county economic development strategic plan after community workshop

Sampson County commissioners and local leaders described a newly delivered economic development strategic plan as a turning point for the county after a special workshop and public presentation.
A commissioner reported that a special elected-officials workshop on Aug. 19 gathered representatives from all eight municipalities, members of the economic development advisory board and other stakeholders. The meeting drew 29 participants, including 10 elected officials, the speaker said. Immediately after the workshop the county received a strategic plan completed by Creative Economic Development Consulting and publicly presented the plan to more than 80 attendees, the commissioner said.
“More than 400 Sampson County residents took part in this process,” the commissioner said, citing one-on-one interviews, workshops and surveys. The speaker described the planning work as community-driven and emphasized that the plan is intended to guide long-term, rural economic development and attract investment.
The commissioner framed the plan as a long-term effort, saying economic development requires “vision, patience, and willingness to plant seed” for future returns. The speaker asked residents with questions to direct them to Ray and the county’s staff for follow up.
