Tempe Elementary highlights Teacher of the Year, student leadership and school programs

Superintendent Dr. Driscoll recognized Broadmoor Elementary teacher Anisi Sharonic as Tempe Elementary Teacher of the Year and summarized student leadership events, attendance incentives and a drive-through food pantry serving 155 families.
Superintendent Dr. Driscoll opened the Sept. 3 Tempe Elementary School District No. 3 meeting by recognizing Broadmoor Elementary fifth-grade teacher Anisi Sharonic as the district’s Teacher of the Year and by highlighting several school programs.
Dr. Driscoll said Sharonic is "known for fostering meaningful relationships with her students while also driving remarkable growth." The superintendent reported that last year "89 percent of her students scored in a high growth category for ELA on the AASA test," the highest in the district, and said Sharonic "will also be honored on the field at ASU's football game on September 13 at halftime" as part of a City of Tempe celebration.
The superintendent also noted student leadership activities at McKamey Academy, including a student-council presidential debate, and described Sprickelly Elementary’s attendance incentive that draws student names twice weekly and awards perks such as choosing a lunch buddy and "$5 hawk bucks." Haldeman Elementary hosted a drive-through food pantry on Aug. 21 that distributed more than 8,200 pounds of food to 155 families; Dr. Driscoll said the pantry is supported by Toyota Driving Possibilities grants and other community support.
President Ewers also thanked Vanguard for a donation of school supplies to support Broadmoor Elementary and acknowledged a $7,500 grant from the Tempe Diablos; both items were included on the consent agenda, which the board approved earlier in the meeting.
