The Chester Block Captain Committee announced a monthly neighborhood cleanup series that will begin April 26 outside Chester High School and continue on the last Saturday of each month through at least September, organizers said Wednesday at a community meeting.
Committee board member Dakeem Williams said the program is volunteer-led and focused on “beautification efforts and disseminating information” from the city, not on law enforcement. “We do not make policies, but we can advocate for neighbors,” Williams said.
Committee member Haley, who helped outline the schedule, said the group launched the series by joining Keep Delco Beautiful’s event at Sun Village Park and will run independently from the end of April. “Clean streets, clean minds,” Haley said, repeating a phrase she used to encourage participation around Chester High, where many students walk daily.
