Public Works: culvert replacement on Tabor Valley Road, overlay progress, Tuttle Creek dredge may narrow Barnes Dyer Bridge

Staff also reported progress on a courthouse window-replacement project (roughly half complete in areas described by staff), ongoing overlay and mill-and-fill work on roads including Skyway and Manhattan Avenue, and routine operations such as ditch cleaning and shoulder repairs. Public Works said a number of staff have recently passed CDL tests and that a Peterson Ranch project has an estimated mid-October start date by the contractor Schilling.
A Tuttle Creek Reservoir dredging project has a tentative start of Sept. 15; Public Works said downstream monitoring will require Barnes Dyer Bridge to be reduced to one lane for approximately two weeks to allow USGS to sample upstream and downstream water during the dredge.
Why it matters: The culvert replacement is a short disruption for local drivers; the overlay and bridge projects are part of scheduled maintenance and capital work. The planned lane reduction for the dredge project could affect traffic patterns for two weeks and was highlighted so the public can plan alternate routes.
Public Works also discussed equipment and staffing items, including fuel-pump repairs at county fueling stations and open utility- and facility-maintenance positions. Staff said the county is monitoring inmate-medical contract costs at the jail and tracking expenditures that could affect year-end budget needs.
