Walker County’s financial officer reported July 2025 year-to-date figures and outlined a plan to surplus county assets through an online auction service, officials said at the Sept. 2 meeting.

Christian Roach, the county financial officer, told the board that July year-to-date revenues were $33,171,964.94, about 95.64% of budgeted expectations, and year-to-date expenditures were $30,823,877.39, or 88.57% of yearly expectations. Roach said staff are refining the format and content of the report and welcome commissioner feedback.

Roach and staff described a task force — including (Curtis) Creekmore, Payne and D’Kaya — assembling a list of fixed assets no longer usable by the county. Department heads were asked to submit lists by Sept. 19 so staff can compile a comprehensive inventory. Roach recommended selling items individually on GovDeals to reach a broader market and noted the buyer pays all fees; the county already has an account with GovDeals. He said a bulk sale often leaves unwanted items and can reduce revenue and that the county would attempt to reuse items internally before sale.

County staff also said they will consider portions of the POTS auction as part of the surplus plan but will finalize that decision after compiling the list. Commissioners invited suggestions from department heads and noted that any items the board wishes to remove from the proposed final list can be withheld before sale.
