Jay Hemphright, representing the Boys and Girls Club of Sierra Vista, told KWCD that the local club operates after-school and summer programs from three locations and is funded locally through donations and fundraisers.
Hemphright described programming that includes homework help, sports leagues, arts, STEM activities and leadership development. He emphasized that the chapter is funded locally and that contributions remain in the community.
Upcoming fundraisers Hemphright named include a Vinnie's restaurant day on Sept. 29 in which a percentage of tips and proceeds will benefit the club, and the club’s annual dinner on Oct. 18. He also noted volunteer needs for coaching and program support and reminded listeners that tax-credit giving season is approaching.
“Bgcsvaz.org. That’s our website,” Hemphright said on-air when asked where listeners can find more information and donate. He added that the club welcomes volunteers, including coaches and homework helpers.
