Council member Toombs read Resolution No. 2025-1459 recognizing the Parkwood 8-and-under all-stars for finishing third at the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series.
“I do before we read the the resolution, I do wanna thank my colleagues of the minority caucus who are standing around me,” Council member Toombs said before reading the resolution, which notes Parkwood Community Club Inc. fielded teams dating to 1966 and that the club’s 8-and-under team compiled a 5–2 record at the World Series, defeating teams from Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina and Mississippi.
The resolution lists the players by name — Jace Gaines, Rudy Lawrence, Amir Walker, Derrick Slaughter Jr., Michael King Jr., Takari Whitehorn, Kendrick Walker Jr., Cody Ross, Clark Beatty III, Omega Martin, Bentley Johnson and Jackson Gaines — and cites coaches and supporters including head coach Santoyo Martin, Edward Jackaway, Clark Beatty II and Michael King Sr., as well as team mom Shaquen Peacock. The resolution describes Parkwood’s history, including its first Dixie Youth participation in 1968 and the Parkwood Community Club’s purchase of the ball fields in 1984.
After the reading, coaches, parents and players came forward; speakers expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment and thanked the council for recognition. The transcript records applause and brief remarks from team representatives but does not identify which specific coaches or parents spoke at the microphone.
The transcript records the reading of Resolution No. 2025-1459 but does not record a formal motion to adopt, a mover/second, or a vote tally in the excerpt provided.
