Metro Parks to add armed security at facilities and move cash pickup to Loomis; staffing and classification changes noted

Director Odom reported to the Board of Parks and Recreation that three FY26-funded initiatives are moving into implementation: upgraded classifications for golf maintenance staff, deployment of armed security officers at parks facilities and most community centers effective Sept. 5, and a contract transition to Loomis for cash deposit and pickup functions currently handled by Park Police.
Odom said the security staffing was the department's largest FY26 budget investment and that the department is working with Metro Treasury to transition cash-handling duties to a contracted vendor to standardize deposits and reduce staff handling of cash. She also said the golf maintenance staff classification changes approved in the FY26 budget are being implemented.
Odom thanked staff coordinators for the employee charitable campaign and noted Nashville will host the 2034 Special Olympics; she asked the board to expect further coordination on those citywide events.
The director asked whether board members had questions; none resulted in formal action during the meeting. The board acknowledged the operational updates and progress toward implementing budgeted items for FY26.
