Chief among the priorities is the K–8 project: the superintendent said the district will devote substantial effort this year to family communication about building closures and reconfiguration, finalizing leadership plans and specialized programming for primary and intermediate schools, and keeping stakeholders informed while architects and staff complete design work toward a 2028–29 timeline.
The plan also emphasizes counseling and student supports: the superintendent said the district intends to refine a consistent kindergarten–grade 5 counseling curriculum across elementary schools and evaluate high school college- and career-readiness programming, including dual enrollment and post‑secondary pathways. Strengthening interventions to reduce course failures and embedding credit-recovery opportunities earlier in the academic year are listed as follow-up priorities.
Other priorities include continued implementation of grading and assessment changes in secondary schools, a review of course weighting, attention to cell-phone and vaping procedures at the secondary level, the creation of a student advisory group and expanded family engagement work, and a refreshed strategy for the Bison Foundation (board/parent fundraising arm) including revised bylaws and at least one signature fundraising initiative.
On finances, the superintendent noted uncertainty in federal funding and recommended a multi-tiered financial planning strategy and enhanced stakeholder communication about potential fiscal impacts. Board members praised the priorities for being focused and actionable and asked for more detail on student advisory group selection and family communications for the K–8 project.
The superintendent said the priorities have been shared with the board for feedback and will be included in the board agenda for approval at a forthcoming meeting.
