Staff said they will consult DLZ (the county's engineering/consulting firm) about whether to extend the bid acceptance period and for how long; options discussed included a short extension (10—5 or 30 days) but no firm period was set at the meeting.
Staff and the sheriff later discussed timing for starting construction so the contractor could complete initial work before winter; commissioners and staff said they will try to time any re-bid so a contractor, if one is secured, can start critical foundation work ahead of the first major freeze, but acknowledged that schedule changes could push work into spring.
No formal vote was taken on the bidding schedule at the meeting. The board also announced a county auction for surplus vehicles and equipment to be held Sept. 29 at the former engineering facility; the sheriff offered auctioneering services.
