Blair County commissioners urge residents to apply for vacancies on advisory boards

Commissioner Burke urged residents on Sept. 4 to apply for upcoming vacancies on county advisory boards, saying several panels have regular turnover and the county needs more volunteers.
The boards highlighted by Burke include the Children, Youth and Families (CYF) advisory board and the Social Services Advisory Board. "They do a lot of activities to boost morale with our employees," Burke said of the CYF board, and noted the panel helps administer a children's special fund that provides monetary support so youth in county care can participate in activities such as band, prom or tutoring.
The Social Services Advisory Board, commissioners said, works with the county's social services director on issues including substance use, housing and poverty and provides feedback on the office's priorities.
Another commissioner urged residents to consult the county website for open positions and to submit a talent-bank application. "It's a good way to get involved in your community. It's a good way to have your voice heard," the commissioner said during the public portion of the meeting.
Commissioners did not take formal action to change appointment processes at the meeting; they asked staff to continue outreach and noted openings will be posted on the county website.
