Board adopts promotions policy after subcommittee review

Commissioner McLeod reported that a subcommittee meeting on Aug. 25 — attended by police leadership and committee presidents — produced a version of the policy the group could support. McLeod said the participants agreed the policy should allow flexibility for exceptional circumstances, such as conducting multiple promotions in a single meeting when appropriate.
The motion to accept the policy was made by Commissioner McLeod and seconded by Commissioner McElroy. The board approved the policy by voice vote with no recorded opposition in the public transcript.
The policy will guide how the department handles promotion presentations and associated procedures going forward, including occasions when an awards ceremony and promotion actions occur in the same meeting.
Commissioners closed the subcommittee business and returned to the full agenda.
