Council approves consent calendar; proclaims National Emergency Preparedness Month

At its Sept. 2 meeting the San Mateo City Council approved the consent calendar 5-0 and adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 25 as National Emergency Preparedness Month in the city.
San Mateo City Council approved its consent calendar unanimously (5–0) and adopted a proclamation declaring Sept. 25 National Emergency Preparedness Month during the Sept. 2 regular meeting.
The consent calendar, presented by the city clerk, included approval of city council meeting minutes; designation of voting and delegate authority for the League of California Cities annual conference; amendments to labor agreements for the San Mateo Management Employees Association and the San Mateo Safety Management Association; a community wellness and crisis response team mental-health partnership agreement; and a contingency increase for the Basins 2 and 3 underground flow equalization system (UFAS) construction contract. A council member moved to approve the consent calendar; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with council members Fernandez, Deputy Mayor Lorraine, Diaz Nash, Council member Skrykokoditsky and Mayor Robert Newsome Jr. recorded as voting yes.
Earlier in the meeting the council read and adopted a proclamation recognizing National Emergency Preparedness Month, citing U.S. Department of Homeland Security designation and highlighting local preparedness efforts such as the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department’s CERT program and county disaster-preparedness day. Kevin Folz of the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department accepted the proclamation on behalf of the department.
