The Cupertino Sister Cities Association presented an update Sept. 3 on its student-exchange program with Cupertino’s sister city in Italy.
Helene Davis, president of the Cupertino Sister Cities Association, told the council the group signed a memorandum of understanding in 1963 and restarted student exchanges in 2024 after pandemic interruptions. Davis said the exchange included students visiting historic sites, attending local schools and touring technology sites; for 2025 she said students and chaperones could not attend the council meeting because it coincided with the start of the school year.
Davis asked that future student-exchange presentations be scheduled in May, after the exchange, so the council can hear directly from students. She described the reciprocal visits—six students and a chaperone traveled to Italy, and seven students and a chaperone visited Cupertino—and noted an adult delegation visited in June to meet the new Italian mayor.
Council members thanked the association for sustaining one of the city’s longest-running sister-city relationships. The association presented an informal gift to the deputy city manager to consider for display in city hall.
