Gilliam County Library reports ADA door grant, children's book program and school partnership

Mary Reeser, who presented the departmental update for library services, told the Gilliam County Court the library completed ADA door installations using a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association and has applied for a Ready to Read grant for calendar year 2026.
Reeser highlighted the library’s long-running Dolly Parton Imagination Library partnership with Friends of the Arlington Public Library, noting the program has served young children in the county since 2012. “Since January 2025, we have given out 538 books,” Reeser said, and she said the county has served 194 children ages 0 to 5 through the program since it began locally.
The library also provides about 10 staff hours per week to support school library services under an intergovernmental agreement: younger students (K–3) typically visit weekly to check out books, and older children visit the public library when weather permits. Reeser said the library’s integration with the Sage Library System allows the county and school to share materials.
Why it matters: The ADA upgrades increase physical access to county library facilities, the Imagination Library provides free books mailed directly to children’s homes, and the school partnership supports student literacy for early grades.
