Clayton Board adopts resolution condemning antisemitism

The School District of Clayton Board of Education on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning antisemitism and committing the district to measures aimed at preventing and addressing hate speech, harassment and discrimination.

The resolution, read aloud before the vote, states the board “condemns antisemitism in our schools and community,” affirms support for Jewish students, staff and families, and calls for implementation of ‘‘enhanced anti‑hate curriculum, professional learning opportunities, educational community programs, and academic programming for students.”

Board members said the resolution responds to local and national incidents. Dr. Patel, the superintendent, provided background before the motion, saying the board drafted the document in light of antisemitic incidents in the district and broader rise in antisemitism. “In light of antisemitism, we saw less spring physically on our own school building and what happened in our own community in August,” Dr. Patel said during her remarks.

Chris, a board member who moved adoption, read the motion and the board voted by voice. The motion passed with no recorded opposition.

The board said the signed resolution will be posted with other district resolutions on the district website and added that the district will track and respond to reported incidents through its established reporting protocols.

The resolution does not name specific instances; it affirms general commitments to “policies, practices, and education that promote respect, safety, and inclusion.”

The board did not take additional immediate policy action at the meeting beyond adopting the resolution, but members said they expect to continue work on curriculum and reporting protocols that were mentioned in the text.

Officials said the document will be finalized and signed following the meeting and will be part of the district’s public record.
