Bannock County commissioners approved waivers or reduced rental fees for two users of the county fairgrounds’ portable bleachers: the Marsh Valley School District’s football program and a community nativity program in the city of Irmo.
Jamie Pearson, Fair Work coordinator, introduced the requests and said Marsh Valley High School needs bleachers for six games this season. Kent Hill of Marsh Valley High School said, “They have 6 games this year. So $600 a day would be a waiver of $3,600.” Pearson and Alex Hauser of the fairgrounds described logistics: the fairgrounds will transport and set the bleachers and leave one set in place for the duration of a school series, and two other sets remain available for other events.
The county discussed prior use and community benefit. Bill Johns, who said he serves as chairman of the Marsh Valley School Board, confirmed the district used the bleachers last year and sought expanded use this season for one event. County commissioners asked whether transportation would be provided; Alex Hauser, Fairgrounds staff, said the round trip is “a little under 12 miles” and takes about 45 minutes.
A commissioner moved to approve the reduced/waived fee for the Marsh Valley School District; commissioners voted “aye” and approved the request. The board later moved and approved a similar waiver for the community nativity program in Irmo, with fairgrounds staff handling transport and setup.
The approvals included no recorded conditions for repayment. County staff acknowledged they will coordinate logistics and communications with the school district and community group and requested acknowledgment in event programs when feasible.
Commissioners made no policy change to rental rates; the actions were limited to the specific fee waivers requested for the events presented to the board.
