Valerius board approves personnel appointments, supplemental contracts and accepts resignation

The Valerius City School Board on Sept. 3 approved the appointment of multiple staff, supplemental contracts for mentor teachers, athletic supplemental contracts and game/event workers for the 2025–26 school year, set classified substitute compensation rates and accepted the resignation of a long-time classified employee.

Superintendent Anne Slosch summarized the personnel packet, noting the district is still hiring tutors, long-term substitutes and daily substitutes and that Human Resources is "on top of it." She asked the board "to approve the appointment of the following staff below...to approve the supplemental contracts for all our new RESA mentor teachers...to approve the following OHSA tournament game workers for athletics in 20 five-twenty 6...to approve the following district and non district workers for the athletic events...to approve the following for payment to work rental events in 2526, for administration at the hourly rate that's paid by the rental group, not us...to approve the following athletic supplemental contracts...to approve the following classified substitute compensation rates...and to approve the appointment of classified staff as described below."

She also announced and the board accepted the resignation of Tara Harris and noted an unpaid leave of absence for another classified staff member. "Tara Harris has been here a long time, and, she has found a new job and is leaving, but I do wanna wish her well. She's been a great employee," Slosch said.

The board approved the full personnel slate by roll call.

Why it matters: the actions fill day-to-day operational staffing needs for instruction and athletics and set compensation and contract terms for event workers and substitutes. The district emphasized ongoing recruitment needs.
