The chief said staff now expect the warning period and activation process to begin in October, though he cautioned that prior delays made exact timing uncertain. He and council members emphasized the project's safety rationale: the chief said automated enforcement is an objective tool that does not single out individuals and that it will reduce red-light running and speed-related crashes. Council members urged drivers to begin slowing for yellow lights to avoid rear-end collisions when enforcement begins.
