The president said the Attain Lab opening was well attended and called it “really gonna be an important part of the college and an important part of the community,” describing efforts to tie the lab to the testing center, tutoring and workforce training. He said the college is “up in terms of headcount enrollment 51 students yesterday morning year over year,” that the nursing cohort is currently full and that SUNY Reconnect had about 80 qualified students as of the previous day. He also described partnerships with New Hope, ARC and the Center for Discovery tied to a DSP grant-funded program.
Those remarks matter to local workforce and education planning because the programs described — nursing, medical assisting, SUNY Reconnect and college-in-the-high-school offerings — affect county students and employers and are tied to grant-funded supports that the president said allow additional student services and pathways to employment.
The president also said the college plans an investiture event on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in the field house, describing it as an opportunity to “emphasize the community and the college’s relationship to the community.”
During the public comment period later in the meeting, a resident criticized access to the field house and urged the county to act. The commenter said the east end of the field house “is not ADA accessible” and recommended installing a small elevator between two doors serving the gym. The resident added, “You are responsible, not the college, you are responsible because you own the property. End of story.” The comment was not followed by a formal motion or vote; no staff report adopting or denying the change was recorded in the meeting transcript.
