Commission hears report on Hobo and Menisca springs; plans fall cleanup

At its Sept. 3 meeting the Waukesha City Landmarks Commission received a report on two local springs and discussed cleanup needs after recent storms.
The report said Hobo Spring experienced flooding during recent heavy rains and now contains substantial mud that will need removal; staff and commissioners said that professional help from the Parks Department or other city crews may be more suitable than volunteer labor for that task. The Menisca Spring basin received trail runoff that carried wood chips and debris into the spring, likely from paths that channel stormwater; the commission said a volunteer cleanup day is likely needed to remove the material.
Commission members said they will try to schedule a volunteer day in late October or early November, after most leaf fall, and will coordinate with the Parks Department to secure tools and a trailer. The commission said it will report back with a proposed date at a future meeting.
