Mexican Consulate outlines scholarships, cultural outreach and local program funding

Consul General Marcos Moreno Báez told the council the Consulate General of Mexico in Nogales supports locally led programs in health, education, entrepreneurship and cultural outreach, and that these initiatives are funded by the Mexican government. Moreno described four program areas — health, financial advice, education and civic outreach — and cited examples: training 20 women entrepreneurs, supporting student athlete travel, indigenous business missions and a scholarship program that supported 68 Nogales students from 2022–2024.
Moreno said the consulate channels funds to local organizations (they do not manage or hold those funds themselves) and that cultural events in Nogales have grown from 13 in 2022 to a projected 31 in 2025. He said the consulate’s outreach helps integration and encourages people to use public services, and asked the city to consider the consulate a partner in community initiatives.
Council members thanked the consulate for scholarship and cultural support, and asked staff to keep lines of communication open for future collaborations. The consulate introduced Deputy Consul Paola Ramirez and reiterated a focus on public-safety cooperation with U.S. and local agencies.
