Principals across the Westwood Heights Schools reported a strong start to the school year and described plans to expand community participation in the upcoming homecoming parade.
Middle school principal Miss Georges told the board that student arrival and lunchtime procedures went well and asked the district to publicize a community sign-up for the homecoming parade. “We would love for you guys to come out and join us in the parade this year,” Georges said, describing a proposed QR-code sign-up on the district website that would allow businesses and community groups to register. She noted the district would screen registrants and exclude businesses that are not “school appropriate.”
Administrators at other schools also described a successful opening week. Grant Rowe, principal of Academy West, said staff and students showed strong energy and that building staff had worked extra hours to prepare. Another principal reported strong turnout at open houses and positive student response on the first days of school.
Superintendent Ms. Roberts and staff reminded board members to complete a district survey that had been circulated to board email addresses; IT staff contact information for help accessing board email was provided during the meeting. The superintendent said texts sent to board members were intended as informational only and advised members to call the superintendent or the board president for additional details to avoid open-meetings issues.
The administrators’ reports were presented during the information portion of the agenda; no formal board action was taken on parade planning during the meeting. The district said it will post a QR-code signup on the website and that campus administrators will review applications for appropriateness.
