Agua Fria recognizes CTE and FFA students headed to national competitions
Summary
The governing board heard presentations and congratulated Career and Technical Education and FFA students who placed at state and national competitions; several students will compete at national conferences including FFA nationals in Indianapolis.
The Agua Fria Union High School District Governing Board recognized students who competed in statewide and national career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) and FFA programs. District staff told the board that 48 students competed at national events this past summer across multiple CTSOs, and that FFA students who are present placed first at state and will advance to the national FFA convention in Indianapolis.
Presenting staff reported that DECA teams from Canyon View placed as high as second and fourth in hospitality and tourism at an international competition and that Millennium High School had students place second in automotive services and financial operations—reported as the first time Millennium students medaled at nationals. Verrado students also had strong national showings, and the district said its five high school media programs received Rocky Mountain Emmy nominations (26 nominations total).
FFA teacher Emily Cox introduced a group of students headed to nationals. Senior Grace Yonker told the board CTE provided a “home” and opportunities to take veterinary classes and other hands‑on coursework. Students described the events they will compete in at FFA nationals (for example, livestock judging will include cattle, sheep, goats and pigs and involve oral reasons). The students thanked the board for permission to attend and invited trustees to visit Canyon View to see demonstrations.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students and the CTE/FFA programs and wished them good luck at upcoming competitions.
