William G. Pomeroy Foundation funds America250 plaque for Westminster Cemetery; installation details pending

The commission reported that a William G. Pomeroy Foundation plaque for Westminster Cemetery is on order and that staff completed required site details to secure the grant.

Staff said the Pomeroy Foundation-funded plaque will be located inside the cemetery near the grave of William Winchester (and close to other named graves), rather than outside the cemetery fence. To satisfy the foundation’s grant process, staff provided GPS coordinates and site descriptions; the commission noted the foundation required a precise location and would not allow placing the marker on private property outside the cemetery fence.

Commissioners asked whether city crews or another contractor would install the plaque and whether coordination with cemetery stakeholders was required; staff did not have a final installation plan but expected the work to proceed while staff were periodically away. The commission said it expects the plaque to arrive soon and to coordinate installation timing and post-placement maintenance in a future meeting.

Separately, commissioners discussed a public unveiling event connected to other America250 activities in Westminster: an unveiling at Bella Grove Square was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m., and members noted that the William Winchester plaque would be one of several local markers to appear as part of the city’s observances. No formal vote or funding decision was taken at the meeting.
