Whitestown police report: August brought more calls, training and cyber caseload

The Whitestown Police Commission heard an August report from the police chief on Sept. 2, 2025, detailing operations, training and personnel changes.

The chief told commissioners the patrol division handled about 1,600 calls for service in August, including 763 traffic stops, 84 case reports, 43 arrest reports and 29 accidents. He said the criminal investigations unit recorded 18 crimes against property and 14 crimes against persons, and the cyber investigations team handled activity involving 69 devices. The department recorded more than 1,000 hours of training across members, including annual emergency vehicle operations training.

The report also described changes to the department's physical fitness testing for recruits. “Now they’ve switched… the academy adopted an obstacle course,” the chief said, adding the department tested a reinvented course at Traders Point and met the academy’s time limits. The chief said the new test appeared harder, noting that some recruits “were their knees were buckled” compared with the previous mile-and-a-half test.

Personnel updates included the department’s newest reserve officer, Officer Ebert, who completed in-service training and psychomotor skills work at the police department and was scheduled to begin field training shortly. The chief also briefed commissioners on internal training achievements: Sergeant Klinger and Sergeant Root hosted emergency medical responder certification training for roughly 10–12 officers over a two-week period; Edwards completed a tactical shield instructor course; and Sergeant Gibson and Sergeant Root attended week two of a four-week leadership program at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department academy.

Commissioners did not take action on the report; it was presented for information and to provide operational context for later agenda items.

The commission’s next regular meeting was set for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
