Coos County honors David Gills for 25 years of behavioral health service

The Coos County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution recognizing David Gills for 25 years of service to county behavioral health programs and presented him with a plaque.
A board member moved to approve the resolution commending Gills’ tenure; the motion passed by voice vote. The adopted resolution recites Gills’ start date (Sept. 1, 2000), his progression from manager of community support programs to community mental health director, and lists programs developed under his leadership including mobile crisis teams, assertive community treatment, early psychosis intervention, supported employment, supported housing and mental health court.
Gills addressed the board and thanked colleagues and staff. "None of us does this work in a vacuum," he said, noting the program’s growth since he began and saying he will retire but intends to help the department during the transition.
The board directed staff to memorialize the resolution in the official county records.
