County counsel presented two related actions resolving Coos County’s claims in the national opioid litigation.
For Purdue Pharma LP, the board voted to authorize county legal staff to sign a participation form for the direct settlement and to authorize Napoli Shkolnik to vote in favor of the bankruptcy plan that governs future distributions to states, local governments and other creditors. The motion passed by voice vote; commissioners said they had reviewed details in an earlier executive session.
Separately, the board also approved a combined participation form to accept settlements with eight secondary opioid manufacturers that produced generic opioid products. The county’s motion to participate was approved by voice vote.
The board did not disclose settlement dollar amounts during the public session; staff indicated details had been discussed in executive session. There was no public comment specific to these items during the open meeting segment.
