Staff said LISD covers books and materials for participating students. The proposed term discussed at the committee would run Sept. 2025 through Aug. 2030.
Monica Calles and other staff told trustees that university instructors must meet TAMIU academic requirements and that district early‑college staff must meet state certification requirements. Presenters said the arrangement is intended to let students accumulate up to two years of college credit while finishing high school; staff noted that while students often earn large credit totals, graduating with a bachelor’s at the same time as a high‑school diploma remains rare but theoretically possible for an accelerated student.
Trustees asked about course length and scheduling; staff said TAMIU courses run the university’s standard 16‑week term (unlike some local 8‑week college options). The committee did not take formal action; staff said the MOU will continue to be evaluated jointly by the district and TAMIU and would return for board consideration as needed.
