Parks maintenance manager details playgrounds, courts and upcoming projects across wards

Steve Glimp, manager of parks and grounds maintenance, updated the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Commission on recent and upcoming projects in each ward.

Glimp said Ward 1 crews installed new bullpens at Rainbow Family Park and will convert a Bob Baskin tennis court into four pickleball courts. In Ward 2, Bruce Trent Park had a stolen dedication sign replaced and will receive wayfinding and sign refreshes at the Angel Park trailhead. In Ward 3, crews replaced bocce‑ball shades at J.C. Levitt and will do a tile installation at the Healing Garden. Ward 4 received a new playground at Sky Ridge Park and plans are underway for a larger playground at Police Memorial.

“Next project will be at Ethel Pearson Basketball Court re resurfacing,” Glimp said, describing several Ward 5 projects including a new playground at Children’s Memorial Park and resurfacing work at Ethel Pearson. In Ward 6 staff installed a dedication plaque for Polly Gonzales at Polly Gonzales Park and are scheduling additional projects at locations such as Floyd Lamb and Teton Trails splash pad.

Commissioners raised routine maintenance questions: a Ward 6 commissioner asked about overgrown foliage obstructing benches at Floyd Lamb and suggested organizing volunteer cleanups for garden beds. Glimp said staff would set up work and have crews address bench access and that community groups could be coordinated for garden bed cleanups.

Glimp provided status on Craig and Park (a public‑works project), saying the contractor is near completion of fields, synthetic fields were available for school access and natural turf installation awaits cooler weather, with final use expected in the spring.
