Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District board adopts 10 policy changes tied to new state laws

The Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 Governing Board voted Sept. 9 to approve 10 policy updates required by recent state legislation, board members said during their regular meeting at the district office in Rio Rico.

The board adopted the policies after a presentation explaining the changes and a question-and-answer exchange. “So yes. Because we have until Sept. 26 when they become a law,” said Mister Verdugo, a district staff member who presented the updates and who told the board the accompanying procedures were for information only and not for board approval.

The policies were presented as mandatory updates tied to recently passed legislation; the presenter told the board the district must act before the statutory effective date. Board members asked procedural questions about the timeline and confirmed the procedures that implement the policies are not items for board approval.
