The Alma City Commission voted to adopt fiscal-year 2026 budget amendments that carry forward purchase orders and increase multiple departmental expenditure budgets.
Commissioners approved adjustments that city staff said are carryovers from FY25 purchase orders that need to be recorded in FY26. The amendments include increases for information technology (+$40,150), assessing (+$5,000), public works sidewalks (+$243,000), street lighting (+$126,800), parks and recreation (+$36,200), city streets (+$1,430,000), local streets (+$165,000), street millage expenditures (+$1,955,000), Alma Public Library (+$120,500), Alma Transportation Center (+$2,980,900), wastewater (+$1,909,000) and water distribution (+$8,240,400).
Curtis, a staff member who briefed the commission, said the items are existing purchase orders from FY25 that moved into FY26 and are necessary to close out the FY25 books. He noted a typo in the agenda and clarified these are FY26 amendments.
The commission approved the motion on a voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting minutes for this item.
The adjustments were presented as specific line-item increases rather than a single consolidated transfer; staff directed members to the agenda packet for the full list of purchase order details.
Background: The vote follows staff review of outstanding purchase orders that obligate funds from the prior fiscal year. Commissioners asked no substantive questions before voting to adopt the amendments.
The commission moved on after the vote to other items on the agenda.
