Cheltenham SD policy committee members reviewed policy 212 on assessment and reporting of student progress and discussed how the district will align reporting periods and communicate with families. Staff said the primary policy text had only minor formatting updates but that an administrative regulation (AR) was revised to move elementary schools from three reporting periods to four.
District staff said the district has published an instructional framework, assessment philosophy and an assessment calendar on the Office of Education landing page and that PowerSchool and Lincoln parent portals are open K–12. Staff described plans for a communications campaign to ensure families know where and how to view assessment information and said they will publish school-specific curriculum blueprints and updated student handbooks.
Board members asked whether the policy should mention different assessment types (formative, summative, benchmark, diagnostic). Staff recommended adding language to the AR or policy that assessment examples “may include, but are not limited to” a list of assessment types; staff said more specific information already appears in the district assessment philosophy and calendar on the website.
Committee members also suggested small wording updates (for example, replacing “parents” with “parents/guardians” in some instances) for consistency across district documents. The committee asked staff to continue improving public-facing descriptions of assessments and reporting so families know what to expect and where to find data.
