Historic Preservation Commission elects chair and vice chair; assigns conference delegates

The Clark County Historic Preservation Commission on Aug. 6 elected Elaine Thatcher as chair and Andy Gregg as vice chair for the 2025–2026 term and completed several administrative items, including assigning delegates for two preservation conferences and closing a public hearing on the Washougal Grange nomination.
Elections: Commissioners nominated and elected Elaine Thatcher as chair and Andy Gregg as vice chair by roll call. Susan, acting as meeting secretary for roll call votes, recorded the results: the chair nomination passed with five yes votes in that roll call and the vice chair nomination passed with five yes votes; subsequent roll calls for other motions reflected the full six‑member affirmative vote when the full commission voted on the Washougal Grange nomination later in the meeting.
Conference attendance and budget: Commissioners discussed conference options and budget constraints for the year. After discussion about value and cost, the commission agreed to send one delegate to the National Historic Preservation Conference in Milwaukee and one delegate to the Places (Washington state) conference in Gig Harbor. Commissioners identified Morgan Frazier to attend the national conference in Milwaukee and Elaine Thatcher to attend the Places conference in Gig Harbor; staff will pursue early registration and report final costs back to the commission.
Other business: The commission reviewed outreach planning, subcommittee status on demolition/code updates and web/design work, and received brief updates on the Stenger House application process and the commission’s vacancy recruitment timeline. The meeting closed after a routine motion to adjourn.
