Washoe County reopens renovated Senior Center after $2.8 million renovation

Washoe County officials announced the reopening of the Washoe County Senior Center on Sept. 2 following a nearly $2,800,000 renovation that modernized the building and added services intended to improve access for older residents.
Commissioner Mike Clark said the facility had not seen major upgrades in almost five decades and described the project as a community hub for socialization, meals and services. “The renovations modernized a space that hadn't seen major upgrades in nearly 5 decades with brand new lighting, flooring, a refreshed kitchen and dining room, and updated restrooms and library,” county materials state.
County officials said the updates also support meal delivery and accessibility, and added a private OnMed care station in partnership with Washoe County Human Services Agency, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Nevada Medicaid and OnMed. The county described the OnMed unit as “a private high‑tech clinic in a box” intended to give seniors telehealth access where clinicians can perform remote consultations.
The renovated center will host social and wellness programs — including meals, exercise classes and technology training — and staff highlighted that onsite offerings are intended to reduce isolation and help seniors access benefits and services. Clark said the county will continue to seek improvements and encouraged residents to use the center’s resources.
County officials did not announce ongoing operating-cost changes or new staffing levels associated with the reopening during the Sept. 2 presentation.
