Following an executive session, the Conway City Council on Sept. 2 moved and unanimously approved a motion authorizing the administration to negotiate possible purchase of property in identified areas, including Jamestown, Sherwood Park and Sand Ridge, pursuant to South Carolina Code section 34-70(a)(2).
During the public reconvening, a council member moved to authorize negotiation of the property acquisition by the administration; council members voted in favor by voice vote and the motion carried unanimously. The action authorized staff negotiations only; the council did not approve any purchase price, specific parcel conveyance, or funding at the public meeting.
The council—s public agenda had listed multiple executive-session items described as discussion of potential acquisition of property in the Jamestown area, Sherwood Park area and Sand Ridge community, and a personnel matter related to the fire department (discussed separately). Staff said any action to complete acquisitions would be taken publicly at a later date, including any vote on purchase agreements or funding.
