Conway—s city administrator told the council on Sept. 2 that Holiday Alley construction is nearly finished and that the Towne Green splash pad and redesigned parking-lot landscaping are set for a ribbon-cutting Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
In a report on recent weather and river levels, the administrator said August rainfall totaled about 8 inches compared with the month—s normal 5.3 inches and described the month among the top 5—20% of wettest Augusts in the last 50 years. The administrator told the council the recent flooding was caused by weather and not development and added that city records showed no reported public or private damage from the recent events to date.
The administrator also noted the Citizens Academy will begin the following evening with about 25 people signed up, and that the city calendar contains more than 200 events in the coming months. He reminded council members that September and October are the most active months of the hurricane season and said staff hopes a few drier weeks will give the river basins more capacity before any storm landfall.
The council did not vote on the administrator—s remarks, which were presented as informational. The administrator also announced numerous Halloween and fall events and thanked staff and outside partners, including the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors, for work on the Towne Green improvements and splash pad.
