The City Council voted to amend its council handbook to add a spoken-ballot option for filling council vacancies.
Attorney/council member Ron (presenting the options) said the change was proposed pursuant to notice requirements in the handbook and presented two alternatives, including a written ballot and a spoken-ballot option. After council discussion, a motion to approve the handbook with the spoken-ballot option passed by roll call.
Councilmember Norbstrup moved to adopt the spoken-ballot option; Councilmember Ward seconded. Roll-call votes recorded all members voting aye.
Next steps: Staff will draft the final handbook reflecting the change and present it to the mayor for signature and distribution to council members.
