Burke County awards courthouse roof replacement contract to Johnson Roofing

Burke County commissioners on Sept. 2 unanimously approved a contract award for a partial roof replacement at the Burke County Courthouse. The board voted 5-0 to award the project to Johnson Roofing Incorporated, the low bidder, for an amount not to exceed $89,871 and authorized the county manager to execute the contract subject to county attorney review.
Mark Delhaut, director of general services, told the board the courthouse project is already underway and that roof leaks in recent years have required repeated repairs. He said the county received nine bids for the partial replacement and recommended Johnson Roofing Incorporated based on price and the county’s prior experience with the company.
Delhaut said the work had been scheduled to begin during a period in October when court is not in session owing to a scheduled software upgrade and a judges’ retreat. Commissioners asked for and received confirmation about which roof sections would be re-roofed and were told the work should put the courthouse roof in good shape for the foreseeable future.
A motion to award the contract and authorize the county manager to sign the agreement, subject to attorney review, passed 5-0.
Ending — The county manager was authorized to finalize the contract. Staff will proceed with scheduling and oversight through the general services department.
