Buncombe County committee approves minutes, forwards annual report to county commissioners

A Buncombe County committee approved the minutes of its July 17, 2024, and July 30, 2025, meetings and voted to send its annual report to the county commissioners during a brief remote session.

The committee separated the two minutes votes because one member said they were not present at the July 17 meeting and would abstain. Committee member Casey abstained from the July 17, 2024, minutes vote; the remaining members approved that set of minutes. The July 30, 2025, minutes were approved unanimously.

Committee member Casey moved to accept the annual report and thanked staff for incorporating prior committee discussions into the document. Committee member Stephanie seconded the motion. Committee members approved the annual report and agreed it would be forwarded to the county commissioners. During the discussion, a staff member, Amy, advised that because the meeting was remote and votes were visible on camera, members should use roll-call or clear gestures; Amy said, “Since we have a quorum and you can't verify that the minutes actually reflect what happened, it's probably best if you abstain from that one,” referring to separating the votes for the two sets of minutes.

Members also thanked staff for their work on the report; one member noted that staff edits (attributed in the meeting to Max) reflected prior committee conversations. No other substantive business or public comments were recorded. The committee adjourned shortly after the votes.
