Commissioners debate Chair Paisley’s attendance; he says he is working with Duke University on health issues

Several colleagues responded. Commissioner Bridal said the decision should be left to Paisley and described him as mentally capable of performing duties. "I think we ought to let him decide what his future in this board would be," Bridal said.
Chair Paisley addressed the board and acknowledged health issues, saying he had discussed the agenda with fellow commissioners before the meeting and that he is "working with Duke University, and they hope to continue to, improve my health status." He thanked Vice Chair (acting chair at times during the meeting) Steve for leading and said he had no further comments.
Other commissioners emphasized that the request was not intended as personal criticism but rather a practical concern about attendance and the responsibilities of the chair, which include facilitating meetings and signing paperwork.
No formal motion or vote on the chair’s status was made during the meeting; the matter remained in the realm of commissioner comments.
