Monrovia council directs staff to opt in to proposed opioid settlements, city attorney reports from closed session

Regarding one of the closed-session items—settlements in multiple class-action lawsuits involving opioid drug providers—Steele told the council "the council directed staff to opt in to the proposed settlements."
Steele also said that the second closed-session item (CS-2 in the agenda) resulted in no reportable action. No formal motion or public vote was recorded in open session regarding the closed-session direction; Steele's report served as the public disclosure required after closed-session discussions that yielded reportable decisions.
The council moved immediately from the closed-session report into the evening's presentations and proclamations.
The council did not publish the terms of the proposed settlements during the open meeting. City staff will proceed with the opt-in process according to the city's closed-session direction and will provide further public updates as appropriate.
