City consultant begins outreach for Cathedral City community‑center feasibility study; Measure W funds cited

Victor Gomez with the city manager's office updated the commission on the community‑center feasibility study the city is conducting with consultant Group 4 Architecture Research and Planning.
Gomez said Cathedral City's five‑year strategic plan identifies a site and cost analysis for a community recreation center. He noted Measure W, approved by voters in November 2024 and effective April 1, will generate approximately $5 million annually for city services and that a portion of those funds are allocated to the DRD annexation and future community‑center work.
Group 4 was selected in July 2025 to conduct the feasibility study. Gomez said the consultant has held technical meetings with DRD and city planning staff, is meeting with stakeholders including Cathedral City Schools, the Boys & Girls Club, the senior center, the library and commission members, and will run community outreach in September–October 2025. Outreach will include an online survey, in‑person outreach at the Hispanic Heritage Month block party on Sept. 20 and a second outreach event at the "Movies in the Park" Spooktacular cinema night on Oct. 7, plus self‑serve kiosks at the library, senior center and Boys & Girls Club.
Gomez said Group 4 will analyze potential funding strategies in October, review findings in November and deliver a final report to city council in December 2025. The presentation was informational; there was no fiscal action at the commission level.
