The Arkansas City Commission approved a resolution authorizing the city to enter an agreement with CivicPlus for a website redesign, annual hosting, audio accessibility integration and Guardian Security protection, with an initial term cost not to exceed $10,600.
City staff explained the city’s current CivicPlus platform license is expiring at the end of the month and the upgrade will add features to improve accessibility for residents with low vision, such as screen-reader compatibility, adjustable contrast and font-size controls. Staff said adopting the upgrade now could avoid potentially higher costs later; one speaker noted federal accessibility expectations and a future compliance date for some municipalities.
The resolution also includes an added security layer via Guardian Security. Staff said the accessibility and security features are bundled in the upgrade package and that adding them now would not create a separate additional cost beyond the quoted initial term amount.
A commissioner made a motion to authorize the agreement with CivicPlus for website redesign, accessibility and security protections not to exceed $10,600; the motion passed on a voice vote with members responding “Aye.” Staff said the updated site will improve the city’s public communication and make material more usable for residents who rely on assistive technology.
