Gettysburg Area SD reports policy committee change, legislative concerns and community donations for kindergarten

The Gettysburg Area School District board reported that board member Mister Dickerson resigned from the policy committee and that Elmore has been appointed chair of that committee. In a separate legislative update, a board member told the board he had spoken with state Rep. Torin Eker and said Rep. Eker predicted a state budget by Oct. 1; the speaker suggested the legislature lacks the same accountability mandated of local governments. The board member also made a rhetorical proposal that no legislative paychecks be issued until a state budget is passed after the deadline.
The board publicly acknowledged multiple community organizations and volunteers for donating and packing kindergarten bag contents and other supplies. The speaker named groups and items donated, including the Mason Dixon chapter of ABATE (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education), Toys for Tots literacy program (Scholastic books), the SCAP early learning resource center (water bottles, drawstring bags, first aid supplies), United Way Ready to Learn materials, and volunteers who packed the bags. The board thanked Lincoln Elementary School counselor Amanda Staub and other local partners for their work.
The board also reminded attendees the next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the district building.
