Gettysburg Area SD board unanimously approves routine items including targeted support and improvement plan

The Gettysburg Area School District board approved routine agenda items 5.1 through 5.5, including two sets of minutes, a targeted support and improvement plan for the high school, and human resources recommendations. The motion passed by roll call with five yes votes from members present; three members were absent and excused.

During the approval discussion, a board member asked whether the targeted support plan applied specifically to students with special needs. Dr. McFarland and a staff member identified as Chris responded that the plan addresses multiple student groups across the high school, not only students with disabilities. Chris said the plan targets areas including attendance and behavior and sets measurable goals for ELA and math using the SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) framework.

The board noted the Intermediate Unit (IU) team worked with district staff over the summer to develop the plan and that the IU will be involved in professional learning this school year. The board's roll call recorded votes as follows: Ryan — yes; Kathleen — yes; Tim — yes; Jeremy — yes; Al — yes. Three members—Mister Dickerson, Miss Myers and Miss Broadway—were recorded as absent earlier in the meeting.
